From Mary Rubow
Fred,
I can still remember the day when I felt like you and I were finally going to be friends. Our childhood got off with a bit of a rocky start, which I am sure you can remember. But, the day of your 8th grade graduation, if felt like something finally shifted. I remember giving you a hug to congratulate you and feeling you hug me back. A real hug. Shortly after that, you and I were working in theatre together and I was so excited to share it with you. From that point on, I knew that even though you were going to be the one to tease me the most and give me the most grief, you were also going to be the first one to stand up for me if anyone else got on my case. I knew you loved me. That love helped me during the rest of the difficult years of high school. I know life has separated us by distance, but I will always love you and be grateful for the experiences that we have had together. Thanks for being such a crazy, funny, and strong person. Here's to another awesome 40 years! I love you! Happy Birthday!
Love,
Mary
